Moreover, in recent years, there has been a lot of demand for true crime movies. The reason for this is reported to be related to a general fascination for knowing what drives criminals. According to a forensic psychologist, Dr. Paul G. Mattiuzzi, “murder is a most fundamental taboo” and a “most fundamental human impulse.” So the urge to know more about it comes naturally to content consumers. As long as cinema exists, this curiosity in humans will always be projected in the form of movies. Hence, despite ‘Deadly Ex Next Door’ not originating from true accounts, it resonates deeply with viewers. Deadly Ex Next Door Cast After burst pipes destroy Esme’s city-centre flat, she temporarily relocates to a delightful and small cottage in a village on the edge of town. The change is a big one, but Esme soon settles in and, as the art gallery she co-owns with her business partner, David, continues to thrive, life is sweet. it was also confusing because until the 80% mark, i had no idea who esme's HEA was, until it was vaguely spelt out for us. Katie Gatewood’s love for her husband Dan is put to the test when Dan’s obsessed ex-girlfriend Louisa moves into the house next door, intending to drive the happy couple apart by any means necessary.

Katie takes Louisa to the golf club and brings up the whole dating her husband thing. Louisa tells Katie that it was nothing, but is clearly jealous. She goes home and cries in a bubble bath while holding a picture of her and Dan at a New Years event? To prove she is over Dan, or not. Louisa hires a male escort to pretend to be her boyfriend. Speaking of neighbors, a new couple moves in next door. A couple, Lee and his girlfriend Geena, move into Chester’s house. They are surprised Elise lives next door and try to apologize. Lee is Elise’s former fiance, and Geena was her best friend. Okay so you have Elliot and Esme who have dated for 3 years but split due to Esme thinking hes messing around with a colleague (and hes gaslighting her. I think he gaslit me too because i thought she was just being insecure and jealous by the way the plot was written)

The direction the story took was another thing I loved. I would never have guessed what was going on if I hadn't seen it (read it) for myself. (Good one, Ms. Platt. Score!) The surprise that shall not be mentioned - the unexpected twist - was both brilliant and sweet.

I really enjoyed the side characters and their subplots. I thought that each character was hilarious in their own way and I was interested in their little lives. I also enjoyed the resolution of the story, along with seeing Esme's personal growth. It was very satisfying to read her understanding her revelations. That being said, there are some things that made my review waver. When art gallery co-owner Esme relocates to a quaint cottage on the edge of town after a nasty situation of burst pipes at her flat, all seems well. Until her ex, Elliot - who she hasn't seen for four years - moves in next door with his new girlfriend, Morgan. As she navigates through this awkward situation, while also keeping her former relationship a secret from virtually everyone (especially Morgan), Esme is forced to figure out what this new dynamic with Elliot looks like while also evaluating her friendship with her gallery's other owner, David. Until Elliot - an ex whom she hasn’t seen or spoken to for years - moves in next door, along with his perfect new girlfriend, Morgan. Suddenly, Esme’s past is right on her doorstep, or at least just over the fence. The pointless friend, turns out the be the pointless sister, gets in a car accident while driving Katie’s car. The police think a hit was taken out on Katie and someone is trying to kill her. (The find traces of poison in her dishes.) Katie demands to see her husband. He tells Katie that Louisa is obsessed with Dan. (Just like her.) Katie promises to figure it out, some way/somehow. It begins with Esme and a broken pipe which leads to an entirley new situation that's all encompassing. David is her biz partner but also a possible 'motivator' personally and professionally. What seems innocently enough in terms of a 2nd location to expand upon their already lively biz turns into a possible test of their relationship status as professionals as well as friends.

despite all these, i have to say that the writing style gripped me—all narrative, no POVs, easy for me to read in one setting without being tired or restless or needing a break. Esme ends up next door to Elliot and his new girlfriend Morgan, 4 years later, and Esme has started a gallery business with a friend called David and everyone thinks they’re dating.

Esme is extremely judgemental at time, I will forgive her judging Jasmine as she wasn't a nice person to Esme but I can't forgive her being judgy of Lloyd describing his meat as art when he is a butcher and thinking Douglas must be a murderer because he can produce dark art pieces for gallery based on depression and sadness and not just the usual animals he makes. Like love you want to sell it yet judge him for making it. In addition, she is so judgy of Morgan who has done no offence to her except get botox and date her ex partner when they have been broken up for three years at this point and she doesn't even know they dated. I don’t even want to talk about logic in this story because I don’t think there was any. I don’t think Esme’s envy of any character having a good day was logical; I don’t think her blaming everything that happened on Elliot was logical; and I definitely don’t think David overlooking all of that and still choosing to be with her in the end was in any way logical at all. About the Characters: The characters in this book were incredibly diverse and very colorful. Some of them were quirky and cute, while others came across as annoyingly toadish. While reading, there were multiple times when I came to realize that the most wonderful characters (who had fooled me into believing their innate goodness) were just downright not so, and the most peculiar characters (who I was getting weirdo vibes from) were the most charming. The male protagonist in this book is Steffen James, a bear shifter who had played professional baseball until a devastating injury finished his career. Although as such he healed within a matter of weeks, all the doctors he had seen immediately after the injury pronounced that he would never recover enough to play again. To protect his shifter identity, he was forced to walk away from his career, but he coached a little league team which included Aiden as one of the players. He and April had dated throughout high school, but he broke it off with her when he left for college, which had broken her heart. Since he coached her nephew’s team, they were bound to run into each other. One of the things that captured my attention about this lovely book was the book title and the book cover. (I'm counting them as one, of course.) The title snagged my interest simply because of what it implies. I was immediately considering all sorts of romantic formulas based on the "perfect title." The cover seemed so playful and fun; it was lighthearted, even. I just knew, based on the cover, that this book would be special. It is a convention of almost any Lifetime film that the protagonist is slow in discovering that he or she is in grave danger from a deranged human being. But in "Your Husband in Mine" (a.k.a., "The Ex Next Door"), this premise is taken to absurd degrees. I loved the description on NetGalley, the lovely cover, the promise of something light and funny. It started good, the first chapter and then I waited for the promised laugh - out - loud. Unfortunately, it never came.

And also… about 46% of the book… was anybody else freaking out??? Have I been watching/reading too much suspense?? Further more, Esme realizes she actually has growing feelings for David, but there seems to be bad timing until Esme finally confronts her feelings! Geena and Lee meet with Allan to talk about buying the house. They plan to move to the Caribbean. It is all a ploy to get him over to the house and drug him. As he struggles to leave, Geena tells Allan that they are just pawns and Elise and Lee are going to divorce them. He is holding a bloody hammer when he comes to, and Geena is bloody and beaten in Lee’s arms. Geena dies, and Allan is charged with murder. The read was immersive in how infuriating it was, but I don’t think that is what the author intended. I spent so much of the book completely peeved at the main characters, whilst also being so bored that there was literally nothing happening in the story. I loved the small-town vibes I got from the charm of the secondary characters, but that was about the only thing I loved about the atmosphere.

Add in family drama, a potential new boyfriend, threats, and life changing secrets it was a decent story. When Esme and Elliot’s relationship has gone a bit to far and David witness the whole thing! I believe that is part of what helps Esme see Elliot for who he truly is. And Wow! I just am so happy on how Esme trusts herself and how she ends up managing her situation with Elliot!
